Einride remote driving demo

During my time at DeviceRadio we took on several projects for other companies as proof of concept for our IoT infrastructure. One of my favorites was an award winning remote driving demo for the self driving truck company Einride.

The demo consisted of a driving station, shown at Almedalen political week, that people could use to remotely drive a miniature model of Einride’s self driving truck placed in “Lådbilslandet” (a miniature town where kids can drive box-cars).

Process

I started sketching to work out the concept’s requirements and possibilities. Moved on to prototyping with cardboard to figure out dimensions, placement and ergonomics (not an expert). I then worked with a carpenter (who is also a designer) to get the desk made right, and developers on the interface.

We also had a simple web app you could use on mobile to drive it around.

DeviceRadio won the Swedish Embedded Award 2017 in the IoT category, for the tech used in this demo.
